Oxfam Bookshop Balham | Oxfam GB
Balham, or 'The Gateway to the South' as Peter Sellers once called it, is a bustling corner of south west London, situated between Clapham and Tooting. The area is well known for its comedy heritage, thanks in no small part to Sellers's sketch, as well as comedy circuit staple The Bedford Arms and famous residents Arthur Smith, Andy Zaltzman and Richard Herring. The area also hosts something of a literary heritage with DBC Pierre having written his Booker prize-winning first novel in Balham. Our bookshop is located on the busy High Road just down the road from the tube station which was bombed in October 1940, an event immortalised in Ian McEwan's Atonement.
